Purchasing Coordinator

This is your opportunity to join a custom machining and fabrication company located in Petersburg, just 5 minutes west of Kitchener where you can play a key role within our office team. We are looking for a team player who will jump in where needed and grow with the role. This is a full-time permanent position Monday to Friday.


Position Overview:

 This position is primarily a purchasing position. But also includes helping with varied administration tasks.

Primary Responsibilities:

Purchasing and Receiving:

  • Create purchase orders and requestions for outside services, consumables and supplies as well as job materials and expedite products communicating directly with vendors by email or direct phone calls.
  • Ability to evaluate material and suppliers to determine the best source and pricing.
  • Cost reductions of materials through potential re-sourcing of current vendors, along with the negotiation of pricing, terms, and conditions.
  • Receive, and inspect materials received.
  • Coordinate the movement and storage of purchased materials.
  • Compare invoices against purchase orders and shipping and receiving documents to verify receipt of items ordered.
  • Identify discrepancies between shipments and orders and take action including investigating and resolving billing discrepancies.
  • Communicate all delays or variances of inbound freight to the appropriate parties.
  • Manage Inventory control systems, establish and improve storage locations, labelling, set up reordering routines and grouping. 
  • Restock and order supplies for shop safety supplies, consumables, cleaning products, washrooms and office supplies.

General Duties:

  • Provide administrative support as needed to the team.
  • Data entry and filing as required.
  • Assist with customer service support, invoicing customers, entering vendor invoices, shipping, and receiving as needed.
  • Entering and updating vendor data.
  • Assist with Health and Safety requirements including ordering requirements, postings and maintaining SDS sheets both in hardcopy and digitally.
  • Other work-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Post secondary education in Purchasing, Material Management or Accounting preferred.
  • Experience purchasing steel an asset but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Previous experience working with ERP systems required.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
